People ask if there’s some sort of agenda to the politics-and there definitely is not. And the rest developed from the what-ifs of what’s going on today. What if China, one of the largest nations, wanted money from America, and we didn’t have any? Then the caste system had to exist, because why can’t Aspen and America be together? So some of the politics came from plot. To me, it was just the what-if questions.

It’s one of those impossible love stories. The good thing is, in the book, you can’t really tell. So it’s hard to say one more than the other. I did? I wonder what I meant? I can’t imagine saying that now, because they’re both really precious to me, because they both have qualities I see in my husband, Callaway.
